WHAT WENT WRONG!? Ep #10 : Martins Dzierkals

Martins Dzierkals

Martins Dzierkals, drafted 68th overall in the 3rd round of the 2015 NHL Draft, was a Latvian winger with skill and creativity. He had success in the QMJHL with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, showcasing his offensive instincts and potential to be a top-six forward.

However, after leaving the QMJHL, Dzierkals returned to Europe instead of signing with the Leafs’ AHL affiliate. This move limited his exposure to the North American game, and his development didn’t progress as expected. He remained a skilled player but didn’t refine the two-way game or consistency required for the NHL.

Dzierkals has continued to play professionally in Europe, including in the KHL and Latvian leagues. He has represented Latvia in international tournaments, carving out a respectable career outside the NHL.
