Players The Leafs Should Traget & Avoid - Trade Deadline Edition

Well it's one of the most exciting times of the year for Teams destined for the Playoffs - The Trade Deadline. The last chance of the season to add those finishing touches to help your team pursue their Stanly Cup aspirations & we're going to break down the best options for The Leafs as well as players to avoid.

TARGET: Brayden Schenn

Number 1 on the Leafs target list is an obvious one, Brayden Schenn. Brayden fits everything The Leafs are looking for top 9 Center, gritty, offensive touch however his 6.5M cap hit could be a cause for concern.

AVOID: Luke Schenn & Ryan O'Rielly

Nashville Predators Tradebait, yes we're grouping this into one because they fall under the same category. Luke Schenn & Ryan O'Reilly are both players the Leafs have added at the Trade Deadline in previous years and given the new look Leafs it seems like a mistake to go back to old ways, especially with the results of our playoffs the last time we brought them in.

TARGET: Scott Laughton

Scott Laughton may be the most ideal target for The Leafs this Deadline, He fills a similar role to Brayden Schenn but only comes with a 3M cap hit that has 1 year remaining. Laughton has 11 goals & 27 points in 58 games this year.

WILDCARD: Bowen Byram

It's no secret The Leafs aren't getting a whole lot of offense from their defense nor is there an abundance of young defenseman in The Leafs organization with an offensive flare which leads me to our "Wildcard" Bowen Byram.

Byram 23, is in the final year of his contract with The Sabres and set to become a free agent this summer. He has 7 goals and 29 points in 58 games this year from. The Sabres back end and could be a nice piece for the Leafs to target and work out a new deal with in the summer

Honorable mention targets:

Yanni Gourde
Nick Bjugstad
