Sam McCue : 7th Round Find?

Sam McCue drafted in the 7th round 216th in June has exploded out of the gate to start the season.

After winning the OHL Championship with The Peterborough Pete's in 22/23, He spent The start of 23/24 with The aforementioned Pete's where he recorded 11 goals & 16 points in 34 games before being traded to The Owen Sound Attack where he had an additional 12 goals & 21 points in 34 games.

Combining both McCue posted 23 goals & 37 assist for 60 points in 64 games, a very respectable draft year performance but not one that's going to float your name to the top of any scouts list.

However The Leafs scouts saw something, a 6'2 190lb power forward with an offensive touch, vwry much fitting the route the Leafs have been going down the last few drafts ie. Matthew Knies, Fraser Minten.

Fast-forward to this season where McCue has taken a big step offensively to start the year with The Owen Sound Attack recording 16 goals and 25 points in just 24 games.

It's not very often a 7th round pick works his way to The NHL and it's far to early to put any kind of expectations on him but boy is it nice to see The Leafs find some promise & hope in the 7th round.
